Good Afternoon Parents/Guardians of SMS Students,
On Monday, April 8, 2024, there will be a partial eclipse that can be viewed on our campus. This will present an amazing learning experience for our students. Our Science teachers will be teaching lessons about eclipses before the event and will review safety procedures for proper viewing. Students will be provided a pair of safety glasses so that they may view the event in the proper fashion
For students to participate, parents must give permission by opting students in on the parent portal by noon on April 6. Also, before going out, teachers will do another review of safety procedures and have students review and sign a safety contract indicating that they know how to participate properly. Any student whose parents have not completed the permission on the portal, opted their student out, or do not sign the safety contract will be sent to another location within the school to participate in an alternative learning experience.
As always, please let us know if you have any questions. We are looking forward to an amazing opportunity for our students!

We had a fabulous group of 6th-grade girls who went on a field trip to the General Motors plant. It is such an incredible experience to get our students involved in STEM activities in our community. Students got to engage in hands-on engineering challenges and had a blast!

No recess in middle school? We certainly try to help with that! 6th and 8th graders got to enjoy the beautiful weather after lunch today! #ItsAGreatDayToBeAMustang

Mustangs,
Just a reminder there is no school this Friday, February 16 and Monday, February 19.

It is always so fun being in Mrs. Coleman's 6th grade math classroom! Students are actively engaged in learning and talking about their thinking. Students also self-assess their learning! Way to go, 6th grade!

The four middle schools have started their attendance competition! The WINNING school gets to tape their principal to the wall and live stream it for the other schools to view. Week one down and SMS takes the lead! We love seeing our students come to school each day.

The Super Bowl theme Thursday for staff was a blast! Lots of Chiefs fans! #ItsAGreatDayToBeAMustang
